Jimny 3 Door vs XL 5 Door: What Fits Which?

Which Jimny Do You Have?

Before you buy, it is important to know exactly which variant you own. Suzuki Australia has sold two distinct body styles under the current-generation Jimny nameplate:

  • Jimny 3 Door (JB74). 2018 to now: The classic short wheelbase three door. Two doors plus the tailgate.
  • Jimny XL 5 Door (JC74XL). Launched in Aus late 2023: Longer wheelbase, longer body, and two extra doors. Overseas it’s often just called the “Jimny 5 Door”

Same 1.5L engine, same 4WD system, same front end. But the XL is around 340mm longer between the wheels, and that changes a lot of what fits.

What's Shared Between Both Models

Good news: a lot of the core accessories are common across both body styles, particularly anything that attaches to the front, underbody, or drivetrain:

  • Snorkels
  • Front Bash plates
  • Bull Bars
  • Tyre and wheel specifications (same bolt pattern: 5×139.7, same hub bore)
  • Interior accessories mounted to the dash or factory anchor points that share the same interior layout

Usually shared, but double check:

  • Lift kits and springs (The XL is heavier so some brands recommend different spring ratings)
  • Tow bars
  • Mid and rear underbody protection

If the listing says “suits JB74” and you’ve got an XL, please don’t assume! Check first.

What's Model-Specific

This is where it matters. The most common fitment mistakes involve:

  • Roof racks. The XL's roof is longer, and the gutter construction is slighlty different.
  • Rock sliders and side steps
  • Weathershields. The XL has rear doors and the front doors are a different length too.
  • Floor mats and boot liners. The XL has a different floor and rear setup, and a bigger boot.

Common Fitment Checks (Do This Before You Buy).

  1. Confirm your model: JB74 (3 door) or JC74XL (5 door). Check your rego papers or compliance plate if unsure.
  2. Check the product listing: Look for explicit compatibility callouts. If it says "suits JB74" and you have a JC74XL, don't assume it'll work.
  3. Measure before you order: For roof racks especially, measure your roof length from front gutter to rear gutter. Compare against the manufacturer's specs.
  4. Verify wheel fitment: 5×139.7 PCD is shared, but check offset and clearance if you're fitting aftermarket wheels with a lift.
  5. Ask us: If a listing isn't clear, flick us a message. We'd rather spend two minutes confirming fitment than have you recieve an item just to find out it doesnt fit.
